Welcome to Band!  I am happy to be working with your student in helping them be the best at their instrument!  5th grade band is a first year class where we learn all the basic techniques in playing a band instrument.  These instruments include: Clarinet, Flute, Alto Sax, Trumpet, Trombone, Baritone, and Percussion.  6th grade band is a second year class where we build on what we know and learn new skills as a second year player. There are a few more options of instruments added in 6th grade- Tenor Sax, Bass Clarinet, Tuba, and French Horn.   Both bands perform at least two day and evening concerts per year.  Home practice assignments are assigned for daily practice.  Band meets 3 times a week within the school day and students do not miss any other academic instruction during this time.  Our first concert is Tuesday, December 18th at 11:00 am and 6:30 pm.  More info to come.

***A monthly calendar with our schedule is sent home and weekly band update emails are sent home.

I have been teaching music education for 36 years.  This is my 30th year in Gilbert  and I have been at Harris since the school opened in 1991.  I received both my Bachelors and Masters in Music Education at the Crane School of Music in NY. Although I have studied and play all of the instruments, my main instrument is flute.  I have had the pleasure of performing in numerous bands and orchestras.  One of my fondest memories is performing at the Winter Olympic Games in Lake Placid, NY.  I tell the students that they never know what opportunities will come their way the longer they play an instrument.  I am married and have three children and 2 dogs.
